“Learn Your Lessons Well…”
The above is a slight misquote from one of my favorite Crosby, Stills and Nash song but it captures effectively a repeating lesson. Life tends to recycle lessons until we get a given point – then we get to move forward.
Sometimes it is necessary to go back to the beginning of our best laid plans and re-launch with patience.
We have been planning for a couple of years to sell our home at about this time, but had not done adequate homework on what a home in this part of town in this price range requires in terms of upgrades in this market. We’ve owned this for a decade. In that time there are a number of “standards” we were not aware of that are “must haves” or the value of the home goes greatly down – worse yet, it could take a very long time to sell the place. We don’t have that luxury of that waiting game. We need the funds sooner than later. Thus we have decided to take our place off of the market for 3 weeks while we make said improvements. This has been a bit embarrassing in that we could have done our research some time ago and had this ready to go.
When living on borrowed time like me, patience is a funny thing – with some issues it is easily come by. With other issues – it seems with matters that were / are completely avoidable – those are hard to swallow. This one I chalk up to the “Lessons Learned” category.
